Hsinchu, Taiwan Jun. 22, 2005 ASIX Electronics Corp. today announced the success in porting open-source uIP TCP/IP stack to ASIX's AX88796 + 8051 MCU demo board. This serial to Ethernet solution allows users to communicate with the remote device server across the Internet. With this demo solution, users can simply use any PC on the network to control the legacy RS-232 device without distance limitation.

The function of the this evaluation board, which consists of AX88796, 8-bit 8051 MCU and
RS-232 serial transceiver, is to demonstrate the feature set that are available within ASIX's AX88796 non-PCI Ethernet controller. The AX88796 is targeted for factory/building automation and home appliances applications such as POS, WLAN AP, Broadband Router, IP Camera, VoIP, IP STB, and IPTV, etc.
The open-source uIP TCP/IP stack provides TCP/IP connectivity to the tiny embedded 8-bit microcontroller, while maintaining certain interoperability and RFC standards compliance. The uIP code size is on the order of a few kilobytes and RAM usage is on the order of a few hundred bytes.

About AX88796

The AX88796, Non-PCI 8/16-bit 10/100M Fast Ethernet Controller with Embedded PHY, is a high performance and highly integrated local CPU bus Ethernet Controller with embedded 10/100Mbps PHY/Transceiver and 8K*16 bit SRAM.
