ASIX Electronics Announces World's Smallest Single Chip Embedded Ethernet MCU

ASIX Electronics Corp. recently announced the availability of AX11005BF, the industry smallest single chip embedded Ethernet MCU in 8x8mm 80-pin TFBGA package, which integrates a high performance 8-bit Microcontroller with 512KB Flash memory, TCP/IP and 10/100M Fast Ethernet MAC/PHY. Being the latest member of ASIX AX110xx family, which was launched in June 2006, the AX11005BF provides a tiny form-factor single chip solution to enable embedded system designers to design low power, high performance Embedded and Industrial Ethernet applications for the growing Embedded Networking markets with minimum board space, cost and complexity.

As the applications for remote control or remote monitoring grow, demands for adding Ethernet connectivity to an embedded system have also been increasing. The challenge for many embedded system designers today is to integrate more functionality to their products without increasing the overall size of the device. The tiny 8x8mm TFBGA package of AX11005BF is ideal for space-constrained applications and is a key benefit to designers as it allows them to reduce the overall size of their systems while utilizing all the advantages that ASIX's System-on-Chip (SoC) technology can offer.

In addition, the TFBGA package of AX11005BF can prevent unauthorized signal pin probing or easy replacement of the device on board, which provide additional advantages for security protection for confidential data transfer on package pins or program code stored in the embedded Flash memory.

Limited samples of the AX11005BF are available now, and volume production is scheduled in August 2007. The chips are offered in RoHS compliant version.
