  •
  • 0008: Where can I obtain the latest MCS7840/MCS7820 drivers?
  •
  • 0009: Is there an option to change the COM port number of MCS7840/MCS7820?
  •
  • 0010: How can I install MCS7840 Linux driver on my Android tablet PC?
  •

Q0001: Where can I obtain the latest MCS7840/MCS7820 datasheet, reference schematic and other hardware design archives?
A0001: Please register MyASIX membership (http://www.asix.com.tw/RegLogin.php?mod=thisis) and then download the latest MCS7840/MCS7820 datasheet, reference schematic, PCB layout guide, etc. from ASIX I/O Connectivity Product web pages (http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=ProductList&PLine=74) directly.

Q0002: Can ASIX help me to review my own MCS7840/MCS7820 schematic and PCB layout?
A0002: Yes, please deliver your own MCS7840/MCS7820 schematic and PCB layout files to ASIX's Support (suport@asix.com.tw) for further review before making your own MCS7840/MCS7820 PCB board.

Q0003: How do I register a USB Vendor ID from USB-IF?
A0003: If you are a new USB product developer looking to get a USB Vendor ID for your company, you can register a USB Vendor ID from USB Implementers Forum, Inc. Please visit the USB-IF web site (http://www.usb.org/developers/vendor/) for details.

Q0004: Does the MCS7840/MCS7820 EEPROM utility program the I2C EEPROM while it is in-circuit or does it need to be pre-programmed and then placed on the PCB?
A0004: The utility can program the I2C EEPROM while it is in-circuit. There is no need to pre-program it and then place it on the PCB.

Q0005: What should be the maximum length of USB/Serial cables that can be used for MCS7840/MCS7820?
A0005: Cable length is one of the most discussed items in RS232 world. The standard has a clear answer; the maximum serial cable length is 50 feet, or the cable length equal to a capacitance of 2500 pF. The length of the USB cable can be up to 5 meters.

Q0006: What is the maximum speed supported by IrDA on MCS7840/MCS7820?
A0006: The IrDA on MCS7840/MCS7820 can support up to maximum speed 115200 bps at SIR IrDA mode.

Q0007: Where can I obtain MCS7840/MCS7820 Linux driver?
A0007: The MCS7840/MCS7820 can install the Linux kernel native mos7840.ko driver directly. You can also download ASIX's latest MCS7840/MCS7820 Linux driver from ASIX Driver Download web page (http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driver) directly.

Q0008: Where can I obtain the latest MCS7840/MCS7820 drivers?
A0008: Please visit ASIX Driver Download web page (http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driver) to download proper drivers for your MCS7840/MCS7820 target applications.

Q0009: Is there an option to change the COM port number of MCS7840/MCS7820?
A0009: The COM port number of MCS7840/MCS7820 can be changed to a desired number that is free and un-used by other device/serial application.

Q0010: How can I install MCS7840 Linux driver on my Android tablet PC?
A0010: No, it could not be done by end users. To install MCS7840 Linux driver on your Android tablet PC, you have to recompile MCS7840 Linux driver source on your target Android tablet platform and then you can install the compiled MCS7840 Linux driver on your Android platform. It can only be done by the manufacturer of your Android tablet PC. Please contact the support guys of your Tablet PC manufacturer for further support if necessary.
